Peoria Rivermen News Release
PEORIA, Ill. - The Peoria Rivermen completed their third consecutive win on Saturday night by beating the San Antonio Rampage 3-1. Hannu Toivonen made 34 saves, including some spectacular stops, to keep the Rampage off the board until the third period.
The Rivermen have won three in a row and six of their past eight games. They outscored their opponents, Texas, Houston and San Antonio, 10-3 over the last three games.
Barry Tallackson scored for the third straight game to bring his season total to nine, passing Nicholas Drazenovic for the team lead. He turned around a one-timer from Lars Eller at 13:26 of the second period to give the Rivermen a 1-0 lead.
Peoria doubled its lead just 2:11 later on Brett Sonne's fourth of the season. Julian Talbot lobbed a pass across the ice for Sonne cutting from the Rivermen bench towards the goal. He rifled a shot past the glove of Josh Tordjman to give the Rivermen a two-goal lead.
The Rampage power play accounted for their only goal of the game at 12:22 of the third period. Anders Eriksson snuck a shot through a screen and past Toivonen for his first of the season.
Yan Stastny secured the win with an empty-netter at 19:24. His seventh goal of the year was the first empty-net score for Peoria this season.
Toivonen stole the show with his 34 save performance and faced a barrage of over 30 shots for his second straight start. He lowered his goals-against average to 2.76 and raised his save percentage to .910 overall this season.
The Rivermen host the Grand Rapids Griffins on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the Rivermen office by calling 309-676-1040 or online at www.rivermen.net/tickets.
