Hurricanes Assign Michael Leighton To Albany

RALEIGH, NC-Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has assigned goaltender Michael Leighton to the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Leighton, 28, has played in seven games for the Hurricanes this season, posting a 1-4-0 record and a 4.29 goals-against average. The Petrolia, Ont., native is in his third season with the Carolina organization, and his ninth professional season. Since turning professional in 2001-02, Leighton (6'3", 186 lbs.) has gone 18-35-15 with a 3.10 goals-against average in 76 NHL career regular-season games with Chicago, Nashville, Philadelphia and Carolina. The Blackhawks drafted Leighton in the sixth round, 165th overall, in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
