Manitoba Moose News Release

In their last meeting this regular season, the Moose dropped a 5-4 decision to the Admirals on Saturday night to finish with a 1-3-0-0 record against the Norfolk club this campaign. Dusty Collins and Alexandre Bolduc both notched their first goals of the season while Sergei Shirokov and Marty Murray evened out the scoring. Daren Machesney suffered his third loss against the Admirals stopping 44 of 49 shots.

Both clubs switched goaltenders in the rematch with Daren Machesney and Riku Helenius manning opposite ends of the ice.

Manitoba came out of the gates flying, notching the opening goal a short 2:16 in the game. Dusty Collins flew down the left side of the ice and fired the puck off Helenius' pad and into the net for his first of marker of the season.

Manitoba received the first powerplay of the game when Radek Smolenak was penalized for elbowing at 7:40. Despite positioning themselves in the Admirals zone and bringing their shot count to eight, the Moose couldn't find the back of the net during the short two-minutes.

At 16:12 Marco Rosa and Alexandre Bolduc participated in a little give-and-go action allowing Bolduc to finish the play with a backhanded top shelf marker, his first goal of the season, to put the Moose up by two.

A tripping penalty handed to Kevin Quick at 6:01 of the second period put Manitoba on their second powerplay of the night. Marty Murray evened the odds, however, when he was reprimanded for hooking at 6:48. The Moose were then penalized again, this time for too many men - served by Guillaume Desbiens at 7:25 Seconds later and on a two-man advantage, Admirals' winger Brendan Bochenski fired the puck through Machesney's five-hole to put his club within one.

At 16:42, Machesney made the initial save on Mitch Fritz's wrist shot, but Matt Syroczynski tipped in the bouncing rebound to knot the game at two.

The Moose regained the lead less than two-minutes later when Sergei Shirokov and Marco Rosa attacked Helenius on a two-on-one. Rookie right-winger Shirokov back handed the puck over the net minder to put Manitoba back on top, 3-2.

The Admirals were hungry to deadlock the game and were successful at 3:39 of the final frame. Mark Parrish fired a wrist shot from the inside circle that sailed over Machesney, 3-3.

55 seconds later and with a scramble in front of Machesney's crease, Martins Karsums poked the puck behind the goal-line to take the lead, 4-3.

The Admirals found themselves on a four-on-three advantage and took the opportunity to open their lead. With 8:22 remaining in the contest, Brendan Bochenski snapped the puck into the mesh for a 5-3 tally.

At 13:56 Marty Murray blasted the puck from the blueline and watched it sail into the right top pocket to inch closer, 5-4.
