Chicago Wolves News Release

CLEVELAND---The Chicago Wolves fell behind 1-0 but rattled off six consecutive goals to capture a 6-2 victory over the Lake Erie Monsters at Quicken Loans Arena Saturday night.

Center Kevin Doell led the way for Chicago with two goals and three points on the night while defenseman Nathan Oystrick (G, A) and center Johnny Pohl (2A) added multiple points for the Wolves.

Lake Erie (8-16-0-3) broke open the scoring when center T.J. Hensick picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone. On a breakaway, Hensick skated the puck into the goal crease and wristed a shot past Wolves netminder Drew MacIntyre at 6:45 of the first period.

MacIntyre (8-8-1) recorded 30 saves in the winning effort.

With time winding down in the first, left wing Brett Sterling evened up the score for Chicago (13-12-0-2). After give-and-goes between center Jason Krog and Pohl, Pohl passed the puck out to Sterling who one-timed the shot from the slot past Monsters goaltender Tyler Weiman for a power-play goal at 18:19.

The Wolves took a 2-1 lead at 2:16 of the second period. Right wing Tim Stapleton won an offensive-zone faceoff and dropped the pass back to defenseman Chris Chelios on the point. Chelios then set up the puck and slid a shot past Weiman, near-post.

Just 1:57 later, Chicago made their lead two when defenseman Jamie Hunt punched the puck out of the defensive zone. Doell picked up the puck and skated it up along the boards before wristing a shot past Weiman from the doorstep.

Down a man at 12:44 of the second period, Oystrick won the puck off the boards in the Wolves' defensive zone and passed it off to right wing Joey Crabb. Crabb worked the puck up the ice and made a centering pass back to Oystrick who one-timed it past Weiman for the shorthanded tally.

Doell gave the Wolves a 5-1 lead with his second goal of the night at 6:22 of the third period. A Monster defenseman was attempting to clear the puck from the zone but Doell intercepted the breakout pass and ripped a shot past Weiman.

At 9:01 of the third period, defenseman Paul Postma netted the Wolves second power-play goal of the night when he wristed a shot past Weiman which chased the Monsters netminder from the game in favor of backup Billy Sauer.

Weiman (6-9-2) posted 16 saves for the Monsters, while Sauer stopped the one shot he faced in 6:43 of relief duty.

Lake Erie left wing Patrick Bordeleau finished off the scoring with 4:11 remaining in the game.

The Wolves and Monsters will square off in the second of back-to-back games tomorrow at the Quicken Loans Arena at 2 p.m.
