Avon, OH - The Ottawa Titans (27-27) split a doubleheader with the Lake Erie Crushers (23-31) on Sunday, losing game one 3-2 and winning 3-1 in game two, emerging victorious in their fifth series in a row.
GAME ONE - Lake Erie 3, Ottawa 2
Despite leading 2-0 going to the bottom of the sixth inning, the Crushers managed to come back to walk off the Titans with a Jarrod Watkins solo homer in the seventh inning to even the series.
With runs tough to come by, AJ Wright opened the scoring with a two-run double off Angelo Baez (win, 4-4) in the fourth to cash in a pair.
Damon Casetta-Stubbs (ND, 2-3) worked in and out of trouble through five innings and put the Titans in a good spot to win.
A single and two walks in the sixth knocked Casetta-Stubbs out of the game as Erasmo Pinales (loss, 1-1) came on to inherit the bases loaded.
Josh Rego hammered the first offering to the wall in right to score a pair, tying the game at two.
Casetta-Stubbs would go five and two-thirds, allowing two runs, on six hits, walking two, and striking out seven in the no decision.
With Pinales back out for the seventh, Jarrod Watkins left the yard with a walk-off solo homer to complete the comeback.
GAME TWO - Ottawa 3, Lake Erie 1
The Titans managed to slug their way to the victory, hitting a pair of homers en route to the series win.
In another tight contest, Taylor Wright put the Titans ahead 2-0 with a two-run homer to right-centre off Matt Mulhearn (loss, 3-4) in the fourth. Wright's sixth big fly of the year marked the North Vancouver product's third homer in his last six games.
Broc Mortensen blasted a solo shot with two outs in the fifth for his first professional home run off Mulhearn, making it 3-0.
Grant Larson (win, 5-6) cruised through the first four innings until Sam Frontino's single scored John Tuccillo's double with one out in the bottom of the fifth, making it 3-1.
Larson would exit after a single in the sixth, seeing his line read five and a third, allowing one run on six hits.
Augie Gallardo and Trevor Clifton (save, 4) would retire all five hitters they faced, striking out a trio.
