Washington Wild Things News Release

FLORENCE, Ky. - After trailing 4-0 in Sunday's series finale at Florence, Washington fought back and had the tying run on base in the ninth before falling 5-4 at the hands of the Y'alls at Thomas More Stadium. The result sent both clubs to 23-31 in the West Division, as Washington now readies to host the Trois-Rivieres Aigles for the first time ever this coming week in Washington.

Florence plated three in the first inning with a lead-off walk by Justin Showalter and then four-straight singles. The back two of those base knocks scored singular runs and the Y'alls got a third on a groundout for the first out of the inning. The Y'alls added an unearned run in the fourth inning and a solo homer by Craig Massey in the eighth to cap their scoring, which made it 5-3. Of Florence's 11 hits, 10 were singles.

Washington scored in the sixth on a solo shot by Andrew Czech, his 13th of the year, and two in the seventh of back-to-back solo homers by Abraham Sequera (2) and Anthony Brocato (17). Washington then scored in the ninth after Brocato doubles to lead the inning off, went to third on a balk and scored on a wild pitch. Scotty Dubrule singled to give Washington the tying run on base but was erased on a double-play ball and a flyout then ended the contest.

Justin Showalter suffered the loss and is now 4-2 on the year. He worked six innings and allowed four runs, three of which were earned. Christian James worked a scoreless eighth and Lukas Young was tagged for the Massey homer in the eighth.

Washington will host the Aigles Tuesday morning at 11:05 a.m. for Super Splash Day and the series opener. Tickets are available at tickets.washingtonwildthings.com.
