Titans Continue to Struggle in Cincinnati, Fall 7-4
February 27, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Titans News Release
Cincinnati, OH - The Trenton Titans, proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, found Cincinnati an unfriendly host for the eighth straight meeting, falling to the Cyclones, 7-4. Their last road win in Cincinnati came in a 4-2 decision on November 18, 2009.
Cincinnati (35-17-4-276 points) spotted the Titans an early 1-0 lead, then ripped off four unanswered to take control of the game early in the second.
Stephen Shultz - just named the ECHL Player of the Week - continued his torrid pace on the power play, ripping a left circle blast past Michael Houser (W, 30 saves, 11-5) for the lead just 2:58 into the game.
But by the eight minute mark, the Cyclones took the lead and at 16:08 Josh Shalla - who would eventually score a hat trick - picked up his second of the period for a 3-1 lead.
But the one that stung the most was a shorthanded breakout by David MacDonald just two minutes into the second. He sped and muscled past the defense to slip one under Scott Wedgewood (L, 19 saves, 16-20-3-2) for a 4-1 Cyclones advantage.
Jesse Todd scored his second of the year, and first as a Titan, at 7:07 with a blast outside the left circle, cutting the deficit to 4-2.
Unfortunately that's as far as the Titans (22-27-4-452 points) would get as they could do no more than trade goals throughout the final period. Jacob Cepis scored his 18th in a wild scrum in front of Houser make the score 5-3. Then Schultz blasted home another power play goal at 13:31. His team-leading 23rd goal and ECHL leading 16th on the man advantage made the game 6-4 before an empty-netter finished the scoring with one minute left.
Schultz has now scored seven goals in the last three games - all on the power play - and has at least a point in all four games since returning to the lineup from injury.
Trenton now takes its Travelling Stick Show to Wheeling, WV, for a pair against the Nailers, starting on Friday at 7:00 pm. All the action can be heard on 107.7 FM (Trenton area) and online at either 1077theBronc.com or AmericaOne.com, with "The Bronc" Daryle Dobos, once again calling all the action.
