Tonight's Matchup: The San Francisco Bulls (20-29-1-6), halfway through their six-game road trip, take on the Colorado Eagles (27-24-2-2), tonight, at Budweiser Events Center. This is the seventh and final meeting between these two clubs this year, with the Bulls trailing in the season series 1-4-0-1. The last time they played, San Francisco came away with a 4-3 come-from-behind victory. Entering the third period the Bulls were down 2-1 before charging back with three consecutive goals in less than four minutes from Rob Kwiet and two from Peter Sivak. The late onslaught was too much for the Eagles. San Francisco had the edge in shots, 42-25.
Last night the Bulls lost to the Utah Grizzlies 2-1. San Francisco scored the first goal of the game early in the second period from Dean Ouellet, getting assists from newcomer Yanni Gourde and Peter Sivak. That would be their lone tally, as Utah came back with two goals in the third period to clinch the win. The Grizzlies outshot the Bulls 42-25.
Goalie Taylor Nelson performed well in the loss. He stood strong against a barrage of shots, finishing with 40 saves. Over his last three games he has 103 saves on 110 shots, good for a save percentage of .936. All-Star Dean Ouellet also kept up his impressive rookie campaign, netting his 24th goal of the season last night. His 24 goals are second on the Bulls, and lead the league among rookies.
In his debut with San Francisco, Gourde registered his first point, an assist on Ouellet's goal. Gourde, along with the recent acquisitions of Tristan King and Bryan Cameron, continue to work on assimilating themselves into the Bulls lineup. The trio will look to provide the team with an offensive spark for the stretch run.
The Bulls will be without forward Kris Belan, who earned his first AHL call-up with the Manchester Monarchs.
The Colorado Eagles sit in sixth place in the Western Conference with 58 points. They are three points back of the Las Vegas Wranglers, and seven points ahead of the Utah Grizzlies. The San Francisco Bulls are in eighth place in the Western Conference with 47 points, four points back of the Utah Grizzlies.
After tonight's matchup, the Bulls will head to Las Vegas for two games, Friday at 7:05 and Sunday at 2:05, to finish up their road trip. Follow along on KNBR.com and AmericaOneSports.com. They return to the Cow Palace on March 6 to take on the top team in the Western Conference, the Alaska Aces.
