READING, PA - Two third period goals scored by the Reading Royals just sixteen seconds apart were the difference in a 6-4 loss by the Trenton Titans at the Sovereign Center on Saturday night.
With the score tied 3-3 at 8:00 of the third period, Kevin Saurette was able to find a bouncing puck inside the Titans' zone and knuckle it over Joel Martin's glove to give Reading their second lead of the game.
Joe Zappala made it 5-3 in favor of the Royals when his seemingly innocent turnaround shot deflected off of a stick and top shelf over Martin's shoulder.
Though Les Haggett pulled Trenton back within one with 1:12 remaining, Greg Hogeboom's empty-netter sealed the win for Reading.
The Titans opened up the scoring just 2:49 into the contest when Jim Henkel' s wraparound attempt went right to the stick of Troy Riddle who tapped into the open net for his eighth goal of the season.
Benoit Mondou helped push Trenton's lead to 2-0 at 7:15 as he took Mark Pandolfo's headman pass and beat Reading goalie Ryan Munce clean with a backhander to the far corner.
The Royals came storming onto ice for the second period and were quickly able to tie the score 2-2. A power play goal by James Hiebert and an unassisted marker by Ned Lukacevic knotted it up just 2:52 into the stantza.
Greg Hogeboom made three unanswered goals for Reading at 10:07 as he wound up from the high slot and blasted a shot that Joel Martin was able to get a piece of but could keep from crossing the goal line.
Trenton would make it 3-3 under three minutes later when Scott Bertoli took Henkel's faceoff win and wristed his fourth goal of the season just under the crossbar.
The Titans finished 1-for-5 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
