Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, today announced that goaltender Jeff Pietrasiak ("peh TRAY zee ack") and defenseman Shawn Germain ("jer MAIN") have been loaned to the Hershey Bears of the AHL. This is the first trip to the AHL in the career of Pietrasiak (6'1"/180) (23), a first year pro out of the University of New Hampshire. Pietrasiak has played the last ten consecutive games for the Royals, compiling a record of 6 - 4 - 0 with a goals against average of 2.92 and a save percentage of .897 during that stretch. A sixth round pick of the Phoenix Coyotes in 2002, Pietrasiak joined the Royals on December 6 after starting the season with the Pensacola Ice Pilots where he compiled an 0 - 2 - 0 record. Germain (6'1"/195) (24), a second year pro from Saint Paul, Alberta, has racked up eight assists in and twenty five penalty minutes in twenty-eight games with the Royals this year. This marks the first call-up to the AHL in the career of Germain, who currently leads the Royals in plus/minus, playing to a (+16) to this point of the season. In separate transactions today, the Royals also signed veteran forward, Larry Courville, as well as emergency back-up goaltender, Brian Gratz.
The Royals are back in action at the Sovereign Center tonight (7:05 pm) against the Trenton Titans, when the Royals' organization will turn back the clock to 1982. Consistent with that theme, the Royals will wear "throw-back" jerseys-which will be raffled for charity-paying homage to the Los Angeles Kings circa the early 80's. Royals' game night broadcasts can be heard live on ESPN Radio 1240 am (and on the internet through the Royals' website, www.royalshockey.com), beginning thirty minutes before the opening face-off. Streaming video is also available for $6.00 per game through the B2 Networks, which can be accessed through the Royals' website.
