Toledo Walleye News Release
(Dayton, OH) The Toledo Storm (15-12-1) struggled mightily right out of the gate against the Dayton Bombers (14-7-2), as Adam Berkhoel (W, SO, 26 saves) picked up his third shutout of the season, leading the Bombers to a 6-0 win at the Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio.
The first period started with a rush from the home standing Bombers as they scored a pair of goals in the first period. The first came at the 7:46 mark, when Justin Maiser redirected a Brad Farynuk shot past Storm goaltender Dominic Vicari (L, 24 saves) to give the Bombers a 1-0 lead. Dayton made it 2-0 at 10:06 when Trevor Hendrikx wristed a shot past Vicari from the left circle. Dayton out shot Toledo 18-3 in the first period and was aided by 5 power play chances; Toledo had just 1.
Toledo collected itself in the second and put 18 shots on Bombers goaltender Adam Berkhoel, who stopped all of those. However, the lone goal of the second period came from the Dayton Bombers at 11:09 when Yannick Tifu finished off a 2 on 1 rush with a backhand shot past Vicari.
The third period did not get much better for Toledo, as the Bombers added a trio of goals to extend their lead to 6-0. Petr Pohl had a pair of goals with Brent Walton adding the other to complete the scoring. The six goals against the Storm tied a season high in that department, who allowed the same total against the Reading Royals on November 17th.
Coming into the contest, Toledo had scored a power play goal in 5 straight contests. That streak was snapped as they finished 0-4 with the man advantage on Saturday night.
The Storm will travel to Johnstown to battle the Chiefs on New Years Eve, facing-off at 6:00pm. Fans can hear all the action on 1520 AM Jams beginning at 5:45pm. The Storm will return to Toledo Sports Arena on January 5th, when they will welcome in the Trenton Titans at 7:35pm. Great tickets for the game are still available by calling 419-691-0200 or online at www.toledostorm.com.
