
Ice Pilots lose to Gwinnett Gladiators 7-4

GWINNETT, GA - The Pensacola Ice Pilots surrendered seven goals in the first 40 minutes of play and fell to the Gwinnett Gladiators 7-4 on Saturday night at The Arena at Gwinnett Centre.
The Ice Pilots' record fell to 8-19-1-1 for 18 points and 4-10-0-0 on the road. Gwinnett improved its record to 17-10-3-1 for 38 points and 10-3-0-1 on home ice.
It was the second of three games in three nights for the Ice Pilots which will ring in the New Year tomorrow (Sunday) night when they take on the South Carolina Stingrays in Charleston at 6 pm eastern, 5 pm central.
The difference in the hockey game was the opening period when Gwinnett snapped a 1-1 tie with three goals in a span of 1:09. The Ice Pilots netted the first goal when Travis Lisabeth put the puck into an empty net on a goaltending gaff by the Gladiators. Mike Wirll and Nikita Korovkin notched assists on the goal.
After the Gladiators tied the game 1-1 then the trio of goals took place and it was 4-1 through 20 minutes.
The second period didn't get much better for Pensacola, as Gwinnett netted two power play goals in the first 5:40 of the stanza. The Gladiators added one more at the end of period to make it 7-1.
The Ice Pilots went to work in the third period and fired 15 shots on goal and collected three goals. David Wrigley, Dwayne Hay and Sergei Ogorodnikov were the marksmen.
Ben Gray took the loss in goal and fell to 3-4, while Dave Caruso picked up the victory his 10th of the season. The Ice Pilots out-shot Gwinnett 36-30. There were 12 power plays in the contest (Ice Pilots 1 for 6 and Gladiators 3 for 6).
