Everett Silvertips News Release

Everett, WA - The Everett Silvertips beat the Seattle Thunderbirds 6-3 Saturday night at the Comcast Arena. Daniel Bartek had two assists and a goal tonight, combined with Dailey and Harper the trio had seven points on the night. Everett now sits with five points in the U.S. Division after four games.

Everett got off to a quick start after their first win of the season last night. Just 3:13 into the 1st period saw Everett break into the Seattle zone three on two. After some crisp passing between Seattle defensemen, Everett's Shane Harper made a snipe short side past diving Seattle goalie Jacob DeSerres to make the score 1-0. Seattle head coach Rob Sumner called a time out immediately after the goal to rally his club after their slow start.

Everett kept the pressure on by generating several scoring chances right after the time out. DeSerres made some outstanding split legged saves in front of the net on Everett one-timers to keep the game close early on. Everett kept putting pressure on the rest of the period controlling the play. As the period closed the 'Tips made some great defensive plays to turn the puck over and break out two on one. Everett's Markus McCrea faked a pass and opted to snipe a wrist-shot top shelf blocker side making the score 2-0 going into the 2nd period.

After a slow start the 2nd period things started to get wild by mid-period. Everett scored their 3rd goal of the night at 8:34 right after the end of a power play. Zack Dailey made a beautiful pass back door to Daniel Bartek for an easy tap in. The goal was Bartek's third point of the night, (1G, 2A). Almost a minute later, Everett scored again after a two on one goal that was similar to one scored in the 1st period. Shayne Brown fired a wrist-shot that went top shelf, glove side lighting up the red lamp and sending the already buzzing crowd into a frenzy. With the 'Tips up 4-0, Sumner pulled his starting goalie Jacob DeSeeres at 9:44 to try and turn things around. Sure enough it seemed to help as Seattle's Prab Rai put home a goal after a shot from the faceoff dot went off a skate in front, past Everett's Shayne Barrie. Rai wasn't done getting his team back in the game yet. Almost two minutes later he sniped a goal from the top of the faceoff circle making it his second goal of the night at the 12:52 mark. The period ended with Everett up 4-2 and the shots in Everett's favor 28-22.

Seattle coming off of two straight added another just 37 seconds into the 3rd period. A redirect by Seattle's Devon LeBlanc off a Jeremy Boyer shot made the score 4-3. Everett started to fight back, after a Seattle penalty on Erik Fleming for tripping Tyler Maxwell swarmed the net, found the puck laying on the goal line and fought to tap it in making the score 5-3 with 12:12 to play. Soon after a madhouse broke out as Everett's Kellan Tochkin was injured on a hit from behind. On the delayed penalty Everett's Paul Van de Velde slid the puck under Seattle goaltender Calvin Pickard to make the score 6-3. As the team celebrated Everett's Taylor Ellington went after Seattle's Steve Chaffin and a fight erupted in front of the net. Tochkin was helped off the ice by teammates for further evaluation. To put the icing on the cake Everett's Graham Pouter scored an empty net goal at 17:21 to make the score 7-3 and add a win to the Silvertips resume.

The Silvertips come back to the Comcast Arena Friday, October 10th at 7:35 against their U.S. division rival Seattle Thunderbirds. Tickets are on sale now at the new everettsilvertips.com and at the Comcast Arena Box Office!
