Everett Silvertips News Release
Prince George, BC - The Everett Silvertips moved closer to first place in the Western Conference and U.S. Division with a 3-2 win Friday night against the Prince George Cougars. Everett's win coupled with Tri-City's loss to Chilliwack on Friday moves the Silvertips just two points away from first place with five games remaining. First star of the night Daniel Iwanski extended his point streak to four games with a two goal night. Kent Simpson made 32 saves to collect his 21st win of the year. Shane Harper (1G) and Clayton Cumiskey (2A) collected a point each to move their point streaks to four games as well. The Silvertips have a record of 8-0-1-1 in their last 10 games.
Prince George took control of the game quickly with two goals to start the first period. Greg Fraser opened up the scoring for Prince George at 2:57 to make the score 1-0. Parker Stanfield scored the Cougars second goal at 4:38 on the power play for a 2-0 lead. Harper picked up his team leading 40thgoal of the season at 12:23. Harper received a Zack Dailey pass in the slot before deking his way around a sprawling Hudson Stremmel and finding the back of the net. Iwanski tied the game at 13:53 after getting Stremmel to drop on a fake shot and beating the Prince George netminder on a wrap around.
After a scoreless second period, Everett took its first lead of the game at 3:05 of the third with Iwanski's 10th goal of the second and second of the night. The Silvertips forward scored on a quick release shot that beat Stremmel five-hole to give Everett a 3-2 lead. Simpson came up big for Everett at 16:54 stopping Taylor Makin on a penalty shot. Makin went wide right on the penalty shot and tried to lift the puck over Simpson. The puck clipped Simpson's pad and the Everett goaltender made a great save by gloving it mid air. Simpson stopped all nine shots in the third period to help secure a 3-2 victory over Prince George.
This brings the 'Tips record to 43-19-3-2 with 91 points in 67 games played. The Silvertips continue their four game road trip tomorrow night against the Prince George Cougars at 7:05 pm.
