
Chiefs Defeat T-Birds

Kent - The Spokane Chiefs defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-1 on Saturday night at the ShoWare Center in Kent.
Spokane (42-21-3-2) opened the scoring 14 seconds into the game on Blake Gals 9th goal of the season. Kyle Beach and Mitch Wahl were credited with assists.
The Chiefs grabbed a 2-0 lead at 8:25 of the first on a powerplay-goal by Kyle Beach, his 50th goal of the season. Jared Cowen and Tyler Johnson registered assists. After one period of play, Spokane led in shots, 16-8.
Spokane outshot Seattle (17-38-7-5) 12-1 during the scoreless second period, giving them a 28-9 overall advantage.
Spokane extended their lead to 3-0 at 6:45 of the third period on Johnsons 33rd goal of the season. Levko Koper had the only assist.
Seattle got on the board at 17:56 of the third period on Colin Jacobs 13th goal of the season. Tyler Alos carried the puck into the Spokane zone with Jacobs following him. Alos cut towards the net before he made a backhanded pass to Jacobs, who was waiting at the hash marks on the right circle. Jacobs received the pass, cut to his right, and fired a wrist shot that beat Spokane goalie James Reid high over his glove. Tanner Muth also assisted on the goal.
Kyle Beach sealed the victory for the Chiefs by scoring an empty-net goal at 19:02 of the third. The goal was Beachs second of the game and 51st of the season. Kenton Miller and Jared Spurgeon tallied the assists.
Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard (14-32-7-5) made 37 saves on 40 shots.
Spokane goalie James Reid (35-15-3-2) made 19 saves on 20 shots to earn the victory.
The T-Birds host the Tri-City Americans tomorrow night, March 6 at the ShoWare Center at 5:05 p.m.
T-Birds single game tickets for the 2009-10 season are available online at the T-Birds website and at the ShoWare Center box office. The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.
