TinCaps Split Twinbill with Hot Rods
September 3, 2012 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
BOWLING GREEN, Kentucky - On the final day of the regular season the Fort Wayne TinCaps split a doubleheader with the Bowling Green Hot Rods at Bowling Green Ballpark. The Hot Rods were victorious in game one, 5-4, and Fort Wayne won game two, 5-2. The TinCaps finish the regular season with a record of 69-71.
Bowling Green (42-28, 80-60) took game one with a late rally. The TinCaps led 4-1 heading to the bottom of the third inning, but the Hot Rods scored once in the third, once in the fourth and twice in the fifth inning to take the lead for good. Jason Wilson (1-0) earned his first win and Colin Rea (5-10) suffered the loss, working six innings and allowing four earned runs.
In that game, Yeison Asencio picked up one hit in his two at-bats, putting his final average at .323. With exactly 378 plate appearances, the minimum required to qualify for the batting title, Asencio could, pending the rest of the Monday action in the Midwest League, become the first batting champion Fort Wayne has had in 20 years of professional baseball.
In game two, Travis Jankowski extended his hitting streak to 17 games and Lee Orr hit Fort Wayne's first home run since August 17th. The TinCaps had gone 16 games, 146 innings and 561 at-bats without a home run. James Jones (4-5) earned the win in relief, and Reinaldo Lopez (1-1) drew the loss.
The TinCaps are off on Tuesday, but will open the playoffs against Lansing on Wednesday night at 7:05 at Parkview Field.
