Hawks Close out Season in Win Column

South Bend Silver Hawks News Release


The South Bend Silver Hawks (67-73, 32-38) closed out the 2012 season with a 9-0 win against the Great Lakes Loons in front of 3,909 fans at Dow Diamond. The Silver Hawks closed out the season by losing eight of their last 10 games and will miss the postseason for the third consecutive season.

Conrad Flynn (1-1) earned his first Silver Hawks win, hurling 5.1 scoreless innings of four-hit baseball. The right-hander walked one and struck out four. Jackson Mateo (0-1) took the loss, surrendering three earned runs on five hits over four innings.

Eric Groff, Sean Jamieson and Kerry Jenkins each tallied three hits for the Silver Hawks who pounded out 16 total hits. The Silver Hawks earned their sixth shutout win of the season.

The Silver Hawks took the early lead in the second inning on an RBI single from Roidany Aguila. Leading 5-0, the Silver Hawks scored four times in the eighth inning to break the game open. Sean Jamieson stroked a two-run double and Ryan Court laced a two-RBI single.

Right-hander Kaleb Fleck worked 1.2 scoreless innings out of the Silver Hawks bullpen. Kable Hogben and Matt Sample each contributed a scoreless inning.

The Silver Hawks scored at least one run against all four pitchers the Loons used.

Darnell Sweeney paced the Loons with a 2-for-4 performance.
