LAST NIGHT: The TinCaps beat the Chiefs, 5-2. Joshua Mears' 418-foot, three-run home run in the eighth inning propelled Fort Wayne. Corey Rosier and Robert Hassell III each had multi-hit performances.

HOT CAPS: The TinCaps have won 4 of their last 5 games, and also are coming off back-to-back series victories versus Lansing and at Dayton.

ELITE EXIT VELOCITY: Joshua Mears' home run Thursday had an exit velocity of 114 MPH. For context, Padres All-Star Manny Machado has a max exit velo of 112 MPH this season (while last year he homered at 119). San Diego catcher Jorge Alfaro leads the Friars with an exit velo of 114 on a homer (he also hit a ball at 115 that was caught on the warning track in center). But for Mears, this wasn't even a personal record. In a big league spring training game last year, he hit a home run with an EV of 117.

He's swung and missed at only 8% of pitches seen, the 5th lowest rate in the league... 4th in BB/K (0.8)...In July, Rosier leads FW in batting average (.357), OPS (.981), RBI (11), and SB (9).

BRANDON VALENZUELA: Ranks 8th in the MWL in walks (48). Has reached base safely in 11 games in a row, making it multiple times in his last five. Has also thrown out 6 of 13 potential base stealers in July.

JARRYD DALE: Ranks 4th in the MWL in games (89) and 6th in walks (53).

CAUGHT 'EM: TinCaps catchers are tied for the lead in the MWL in throwing runners out trying to steal (34 CS). Individually, Brandon Valenzuela leads the league with 23, while Anthony Vilar has nabbed 9, and Adam Kerner has caught 2.
