(SOUTH BEND, IN) - It took 10 innings but the Lake County Captains (50-41) earned win number 50, defeating the South Bend Cubs (52-41) 4-2 on a sunny Thursday evening at Four Winds Field.

Rodney Boone had a solid outing for Lake County. The southpaw allowed an RBI single in the first but buckled down for a scoreless second through the fourth.

Through the first four innings, the Captains left four on base, and struck out eight times. In the top of the fifth inning, Korey Holland singled and Milan Tolentino doubled. That setup Joe Naranjo, who drove home Holland with a base knock, the third straight Lake County hit to make it 1-1. Two strikeouts ended the inning and gave the Cubs starter Porter Hodge 10 strikeouts.

After three walks and two outs gained, Boone was taken out of the game in the bottom of the fifth. Zach Hart took the final out of the inning with a strikeout with the bases loaded.

The Captains grabbed the lead in the sixth, with a leadoff homer from Johnathan Rodriguez. Rodriguez now has back-to-back games with a blast and 13 this season.

In the seventh inning, Zach Hart ran into trouble, allowing a leadoff single and walk. He then forced a 4-6-3 double play, to get two away. Another walk brought on Trey Benton, he walked a batter to load the bases. Benton then faced Owen Cassie who had the RBI single early and threw a seven-pitch strikeout.

Luis Verdugo tied up the game with one swing of the bat, a solo homer in the eighth. The Cubs smacked two singles and then the Captains turned to Raymond Burgos. Burgos got a pop-up and strikeout, which stranded two runners in scoring position.

Both teams went down 1-2-3 in the ninth inning. In the top of the tenth, with Jared Wright going into a third inning of relief for South Bend, Lake County took the advantage. Alexfri Planez and Johnathan Rodriguez both drove in runs with singles.

The Cubs had the game-winning run step up to the plate with two outs in the tenth. Burgos forced a groundout to end the game. South Bend left 13 men on base.
