Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

PEORIA, Ill. -- The Fort Wayne TinCaps fell to the Peoria Chiefs (St. Louis Cardinals affiliate), 4-2, on Friday night at Dozer Park. The 'Caps brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning, but their rally fell short.

The Chiefs (12-16, 40-54) built a 4-0 lead with a run in the first, another in the fourth, and two in the sixth.

The TinCaps (13-15, 40-54) chipped into their deficit with a run in the eighth. Then in the ninth, catcher Anthony Vilar came through with a two-out RBI double to plate right fielder Joshua Mears, who reached with a single. Mears went 2-for-4 in the game, the only TinCap with more than one hit.

Both teams were just 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position, and both left nine runners on base.

Despite the outcome, Fort Wayne has won four of its last six games and has a chance to win its third consecutive series. This set is tied, 2-2, with two games left.
