
Kernels Shut Out in Wisconsin

Appleton, WI - The Cedar Rapids Kernels managed just two hits on Friday evening as they were shut out 4-0 by the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Wander Javier went 1-for-4 to extend his on-base streak to 26 games while Jake Rucker reached base three times by going 1-for-2 with a walk and a hit-by-pitch. The Kernels move to 58-36, 15-13 in the second half.
Cade Povich threw extremely well in a hard-luck loss, striking out eight over 5.0 frames of three-run ball. The lefthander scattered five hits and one walk, throwing 55 strikes on 89 pitches with 17 swinging strikes.
Matt Mullenbach added 2.0 scoreless innings of relief for Cedar Rapids, striking out two and allowing a lone baserunner on a walk.
The Kernels were stymied for the third time this season by Timber Rattler righthander Justin Jarvis, who is now 3-0 with a 0.51 ERA (17.2 IP/1 ER) and just four hits allowed in three starts against Cedar Rapids in 2022.
Game five of the series is set for 6:40 p.m. CT on Saturday evening in Appleton.
