Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
Sioux City, IA- The Sioux Falls Canaries picked up their fourth win in their last five games Tuesday night, topping rival Sioux City 4-3 at Louis and Clark Park.
Sioux City opened the scoring in the first inning with a Danry Vazquez sacrifice flyout but the Birds knotted things up in the fourth with back-to-back one-out doubles from Trey Michalczewski and Gavin LaValley.
The Explorers struck for a pair of runs in the sixth inning, stringing together four consecutive two-out hits. Sioux Falls put two runners on base with two outs in the next half inning, forcing a Sioux City pitching change. Jabari Henry wasted no time, crushing the first pitch he saw over the left field fence for a go-ahead three-run homerun. The X's managed to get the tying run on base with two outs in the ninth but John Nester threw out a would-be base stealer to end the game.
Michalczewski and LaValley each finished with two hits and the Sioux Falls pitching staff did not issue a walk. The Canaries are now 14-27 and look to clinch the three-game series Wednesday night at 7:05pm.
