Lake Country DockHounds News Release
OCONOMOWOC, WI. - The Lake Country DockHounds ended their 10-game skid with a win against Milwaukee 3-2 Tuesday evening.
The DockHounds started Brent Jones on the mound and he would go three innings in the contest. Jones began with three strikeouts in the first inning, but did give up a solo home run to Corelle Prime. Milwaukee led 1-0.
In the third inning, Mason Davis singled on a 1-2 count. He would then steal second base.
Keon Barnum, the 2019 Independent Ball Player of the Year and 2019 AAPB MVP, drilled a double and scored Davis. The score would sit 2-0 Milkmen.
Jones' day would be done after the third frame as he gave up two earned runs and set down four batters on strikes. For the Milkmen, Jose Espada went six complete innings, gave up no runs, and struck out eight.
In the eighth, A.J. Schugel took the hill for what hoped to be another quick inning for Milwaukee. The DockHounds had other plans as Aaron Takacs led off with a 6-pitch walk. TJ Bennett doubled to advance Takacs to third base.
The magic happened in a few unconventional ways for Lake Country. A passed ball on the next at bat would score the first run. All-star selection Gio Brusa had the green light on a 3-1 count and plated the tying run on a double. The play is HERE !
With two outs in the inning, Wilfredo Gimenez took the plate in a huge spot with Brusa at second. Gimenez tore part of the cover of the baseball off (literally) as the ball spun towards Schugel near the first base line. Wilfredo hustled to first and reached on an infield error, scoring the go-ahead run. You can watch the highlight play HERE .
The DockHounds stranded the tying run for the Milkmen at second on a 6-3 putout to close the game.
Greg Veliz earned the win in relief, but a combined pitching effort won the game for Lake Country. The final score was 3-2, DockHounds.
The DockHounds will continue the series against the Milwaukee Milkmen at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday evening. You can catch the game live on AAbaseball.tv, with broadcaster Sam Matheny on play-by-play.
