Sioux Falls Clubs Way to Win

Sioux City, Iowa - The Sioux Falls Canaries and Jabari Henry clubbed their way to a win over the Sioux City Explorers 4-3 in the series opener.

The Sioux City Explorers struck in the first. Chase Harris led off the inning with a double, was moved to third on a fly ball by Danny Amaral and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Danry Vasquez to take a 1-0 lead.

The Canaries got their first run across in the fourth to tie the game 1-1. Trey Michalczewski doubled with one out and Gavin LaValley doubled right on the next pitch to score Michalczewski.

That lone run was the only one Patrick Ledet gave up through his six innings pitched. The newly minted American Association All-Star struck out eight giving up one run on three hits and four walks.

Canaries' starter Neil Lang threw five innings of one run ball, struck out three allowed six hits and no walks while taking a no decision.

Colby Wyatt (3-2) relieved Lang and gave up two runs, but picked up the win. After collecting the first two outs of the sixth he then surrendered four consecutive singles. Shane Podsednik and Chase Harris brought home the two runs for Sioux City on back-to-back RBI singles to give Sioux City a 3-1 lead.

In the seventh the Canaries powered their way to a 4-3 lead. With two runners aboard and two out, Jabari Henry hit his 16th homer of the season, the three-run shot gave Sioux Falls a 4-3 lead.

The home run came off X's reliever Brandon Brosher (2-2) who took the loss, he pitched an inning and a third, allowing the lone hit and run.

Riley Ferrell (7) came in for the save and secured the Canaries 4-3 win with a scoreless ninth.

Sioux City out hit the Canaries thirteen to six, but of the thirteen hits for the X's twelve were singles with just the lone extra base hit being the double by Harris in the first.

Game two of the series between the Explorers and Canaries takes place at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday. The X's send out lefty Tom Windle (0-2, 4.50) to the bump. The righty Tyler Garkow (0-2, 8.10) will take the ball for the Canaries.
