RedHawks Make Early Lead Stand against Goldeyes

WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Goldeyes (23-18) lost 7-3 to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at Shaw Park on Wednesday night.
The RedHawks (30-12) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. With two outs and no one on base, Drew Ward doubled to left-centre, setting up a two-run home run to left-centre from Leobaldo Pina.
In the top of the third, the RedHawks loaded the bases with one out and made it 3-0 on an RBI single to right from John Silviano. Sam Dexter followed with a two-run single up the middle, while Ben Livorsi's two-out, RBI double capped the rally to make it 6-0.
Goldeyes' pitching settled in for the next five innings, and Winnipeg got on the board in the bottom of the fifth when Reggie Pruitt Jr. scored on a two-out wild pitch.
With two outs and no one on base in the bottom of the sixth, Ian Sagdal singled up the middle on the ninth pitch of his at bat to extend the inning. Max Murphy followed with a two-run home run down the left field line to pull the Goldeyes within 6-3.
Joe Jones pitched scoreless innings over the seventh and eighth, while Alex DuBord struck out the side in the ninth to close out the game for the RedHawks.
Fargo-Moorhead's final run came in the top of the ninth on a Dexter sacrifice fly.
RedHawks' starter Peyton Wigginton (2-1) picked up the win, allowing three earned runs on five hits over six innings. Wigginton walked two and struck out five.
RJ Martinez (4-2) started for the Goldeyes and took the loss, allowing six earned runs on nine hits over six innings. Martinez walked three and struck out four.
The series concludes Thursday night at 6:35 p.m. Luis Ramirez (5-1, 4.37) faces right-hander Davis Feldman (3-2, 3.79).
