Timbers to Participate in 2012 MLS SuperDraft Thursday

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers hold two picks, including the No. 8 overall selection, in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft, which takes place Thursday at the Kansas City Convention Center in Kansas City, Mo. The 2012 MLS SuperDraft kicks off at 9 a.m. (Pacific), with the first round airing on ESPN2.

In addition to the No. 8 pick (first round), the Timbers also have the No. 27 overall pick (second round) in the two-round draft. The 2012 MLS SuperDraft will consist of 38 total selections with the expansion Montreal Impact owning the No. 1 overall pick. The complete draft order is available in the SuperDraft press kit.

The entire 2012 MLS SuperDraft will be shown live on ESPN3, with live chat and behind-the-scenes coverage on MLSsoccer.com.

Portland selected midfielder Darlington Nagbe with the No. 2 overall pick and defender Chris Taylor in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft as the club prepared for its inaugural season in MLS in 2011.

Complementing the SuperDraft, MLS will hold its 2012 Supplemental Draft on Tuesday, Jan. 17, via conference call. The 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft will consist of four rounds, with the Timbers holding all four of their selections (No. 8, No. 27, No. 46 and No. 65).

The Timbers open their second MLS campaign on Monday, March 12, when they play host to the Philadelphia Union at JELD-WEN Field on ESPN2; kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. (Pacific).
