SANDY, Utah - The Portland Timbers battled back from an early deficit by scoring three unanswered goals to record a 3-1 win over Real Salt Lake on Saturday night in front of a sold-out crowd of 20,481 at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah. The win marked Portland's third consecutive road victory and the team's first win at Rio Tinto Stadium.

After going down a goal in the 23rd minute, forward Fanendo Adi helped the Timbers overcome the early deficit with a first-half brace, scoring goals in the 36th and 45th minutes. Already down a goal, Real Salt Lake (6-2-7, 25pts), which entered the match with a 3-0-3 record at home this season, was reduced to 10 men in the 54th minute following a second yellow card to defender Tony Beltran after a reckless tackle on midfielder/forward Darlington Nagbe. Beltran was issued his first caution just a minute earlier for a foul on Nagbe.

Controlling the majority of possession in the second half, the Timbers (4-4-7, 19pts) increased their lead in the 73rd minute, with Will Johnson delivering a penalty kick inside the left post following a handball in the box on a Real Salt Lake defender. The penalty kick was the first awarded to the Timbers this season through 15 matches.

Goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts came up with four saves while the Timbers earned a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal in the match. With the win, Portland is unbeaten in four consecutive road matches (3-0-1), including a Timbers MLS club-record three straight wins. Additionally, the Timbers have recorded at least one point in seven of the last eight matches overall, dating back to April 27.
