New York Red Bulls News Release

FOXBOROUGH, MA (June 8, 2014) - Goals from Eric Alexander and Peguy Luyindula and a strong performance in-between the posts by goalkeeper Luis Robles helped the New York Red Bulls earn their first win in Foxborough in almost 12 years - a 2-0 victory over the Eastern Conference-leading New England Revolution (7-5-2, 23 pts.) at Gillette Stadium Sunday.

The win moved New York to 18 points off a 4-5-6 record and into a fifth place Eastern Conference tie with the Columbus Crew heading into the MLS break of play for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. New York's prior victory in Massachusetts came on June 29, 2002. Since then, the club went winless in the following 17 regular season matches (0-11-6).

The Red Bulls will next take on the New York Cosmos next Saturday, June 14 at Shuart Stadium in Hempstead, NY in the fourth round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at 8:30 PM. Tickets are on sale now for the Red Bulls' next MLS game at Red Bull Arena against Toronto FC on Friday, June 27 at 8:00 PM by calling 1.877.727.6223 or logging onto tickets.newyorkredbulls.com.

Missing the services of several key players including Thierry Henry, Tim Cahill, Jamison Olave, Roy Miller and Dax McCarty, the shorthanded Red Bulls still took the lead in the 17th minute. Lloyd Sam's free kick towards the back post was nodded into the back of the net by Alexander to make the score 1-0.

Robles made a number of key saves to keep the Red Bulls ahead at halftime. In the 22nd minute, Lee Nguyen's attempt from the top of the box was caught before Chris Tierney forced the Red Bulls goalkeeper to push his blast over the crossbar. Revolution forward Diego Fagundez was able to beat Robles with a minute left in the half, but his right-footed attempt slammed off the left post before being cleared.

Despite withstanding a significant amount of pressure in the second half, Luyindula gave the Red Bulls a 2-0 lead with less than 15 minutes to play. The ball was headed down at the top of the box and Luyindula hit it on the volley past goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth and into the lower right corner of the net.
