Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

Medicine Hat, AB - The Medicine Hat Tigers were victorious in their first game of the 2018-19 Western Hockey League season defeating the Lethbridge Hurricanes 5-2.

Five different Tigers scored while veteran netminder Jordan Hollett made 33 saves on 35 shots faced in Lethbridge.

Ryan Jevne opened the scoring after pouncing on a loose puck in the Hurricanes' end and firing it past Canes goaltender Reese Klassen to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Late in the first period, Jevne combined with Josh Williams to set up Elijah Brown on the power play.

Although both teams had their chances in the second stanza, the score remained 2-0 after 40 minutes of play.

Thirty-six seconds into the final frame, Gary Haden scored on the power play. Ryan Chyzowski and newly minted Tigers Captain, James Hamblin, picked up the assists on the play.

Hurricanes' Jordy Bellerive and Calen Addison both scored power-play goals midway through the third period as things became heated between the two teams.

Shortly after, Hamblin set up Tyler Preziuso to score the insurance goal of the game on the power play.

Trailing 4-2, Hurricanes pulled goaltender Klassen before Hamblin tucked the puck into the empty net to secure a 5-2 Tigers victory.

Klassen stopped 23 of the Tabbies' 27 shots he faced.

The Tigers will host the Hurricanes tomorrow night for our home opener presented by Western Financial. Skinny's Smokehouse is hosting a tailgate party at 5:00 PM and all proceeds will go to the Medicine Hat & District Food Bank. Fans are encouraged to be in their seats before the 7:30 PM puck drop for the player introductions.
