ICE Begin 2018-19 Regular Season against Rival Hitmen

Cranbrook, B.C. - The Kootenay ICE kick off its 2018-19 regular season schedule with a home date against the Calgary Hitmen on Saturday.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. MT.

ICE 2018 Pre-season Leaders:

The Kootenay ICE are coming off of a 3-2 loss to the Calgary Hitmen on Saturday, September 15. That contest was the final pre-season game for both teams. The ICE received goals from Sebastian Streu and Valtteri Kakkonen, while Jonathan Smart, Connor McClennon, Loeden Schaufler and Keenan Taphorn registered the assists. Goaltender Jesse Makaj made 22-saves in the loss. The ICE outshot the Hitmen 44-25. The ICE went 1-for-8 on the power play, 0-for-1 on the penalty kill and won 24 of 58 faceoffs.

The ICE finished the 2018 pre-season with a record of 2-4-1-0.

The ICE finished the 2017-18 regular season with a record of 27-38-5-2 (61 points), good for fourth in the Central Division and 10th in the Eastern Conference.

The Hitmen begin its 2018-19 regular season schedule with a visit to Cranbrook and a date against the ICE on Saturday. The Hitmen are coming off of a perfect pre-season, collecting six victories in all six games it played in. In fact, the Hitmen were the only WHL team to win every game during pre-season.

The Hitmen finished the 2017-18 regular season with a record of 24-37-9-2 (59 points), good for fifth in the Central Division and 11th in the Eastern Conference.

HEAD TO HEAD LAST SEASON

The ICE and the Hitmen played seven times during the 2017-18 campaign. The ICE registered a record of 5-1-0-1 against its division rival.
