The Story Coming In

The Medicine Hat Tigers finished the 2017-18 season by clinching first in the Central Division posting a 36-28-8-0 record. The Orange and Black fell to the Brandon Wheat Kings in the first round of the 2018 playoffs. This year's edition of the Tabbies boasts 18 returning players from the 17-18 squad that will be hungry for more. The Tabbies won their season opener 5-2 last night and posted a 3-1-1-0 in WHL Preseason action.

Tigers vs. Hurricanes

For the seventh straight season, the Tigers open their 2018-19 campaign with a home and home series against the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Last night five different players scored for the Tabbies en route to a 5-2 victory over the Canes. The Tigers boast an 8-4-0-0 record against the Hurricanes during the home opener weekend and perfect 6-0-0-0 record at home.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes finished their 2017-18 campaign with a 33-33-6-0 record securing 2nd place in the Central Division. The Hurricanes went on to beat the Red Deer Rebels and the Brandon Wheat Kings before falling to the eventual WHL Champions, the Swift Current Broncos in the Eastern Division final.

Tigers Talent

Ryan Chyzowski recently returned to the Tigers' lineup after being invited to the Vegas Golden Knights' rookie tournament and main training camp. Chyzowksi had a banner year last season reaching career highs in goals (21) and assists (31). The 18-year-old Kamloops native has a nose for the puck and he is not afraid to mix it up. Look for Chyzowski to crash the net and create scoring opportunities.

Captain's Corner

James Hamblin will proudly captain the 2018-19 edition of the Medicine Hat Tigers. Hamblin is a speedy, hard-working, two way forward who reached career highs in assists and points last season. The 19-year-old Edmonton native racked up 64 points (21G, 43A) in 70 games last season and will look to build on that performance as he leads the team this season. "We can expect to turn some heads, people are filling different roles and it's going to be exciting to see how they do," said Hamblin.

Quick Hits

Joel Craven is a Third Generation Tiger and the only third generational player in the WHL. He is following in the footsteps of his father Murray and his Grandpa Ron.

Six Tigers attended NHL Rookie Tournaments and Development Camps and all six were invited to stay for main training camp. David Quenneville (NY Islanders), Mason Shaw (Iowa Wild), Jordan Hollett (Ottawa Senators), Linus Nassen (Florida Panthers), Dylan MacPherson (Florida Panthers - invite) and Ryan Chyzowski (Vegas Golden Knights - invite). Jordan Hollett and Ryan Chyzowski have since rejoined the Tigers.

Josh Williams won gold with Team Canada at the Hlinka Gretzky cup. He had 6 points (5 goals and 1 assist) in 5 games played included the OT winner in the semifinals against Team USA.

Dawson Heathcote led all Tigers in WHL Preseason Action with 6 points (3G, 3A) in 4 games played.

The Medicine Hat Tigers are a junior hockey team in the Western Hockey League (WHL) who play out of Medicine Hat, AB and were established in 1970. In 48 seasons of playing major junior hockey, the Tigers have won 2 Scotty Munro Memorial Trophies, as well as, 210 playoff games which led to winning 43 playoff series, raising 33 banners, winning five Ed Chynoweth Cups and two Memorial Cups.
