Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
Medicine Hat, AB - The Medicine Hat Tigers opened their 2018-19 campaign by splitting the weekend with the Lethbridge Hurricanes after falling 4-2 on Saturday night.
Tigers Captain James Hamblin continues to lead by example scoring and picking up an assist in tonight's loss. Hamblin has 5 points (2G, 3A) after two games so far this season and earned tonight's second star.
After a scoreless first period, Hurricanes Keltie Jeri-Leon broke the stalemate early in the second stanza.
Midway through the frame while on the penalty kill, Tyler Preziuso pounced on a loose puck in the Hurricanes' end and fed it to Hamblin. Hamblin danced the puck around the Hurricanes defence before scoring shorthanded and tying the game back up at 1.
Hurricanes regained the lead when Taylor Ross wrapped the puck around the net and slide it past Tigers goaltender Jordan Hollett. Dylan Cozens extended the Hurricanes lead to 3-1 just over a minute later.
Late in the period, Bryan Lockner fired the puck top corner glove side on Canes' Reese Klassen. Hamblin combined with Gary Haden to set Lockner up for his first goal of the season. The home team headed to the dressing room trailing by 1 goal after 40 minutes of play.
Near the end of the game, Hollett left the net to give the Tabbies the man advantage. Unfortunately, Hurricanes veteran Jake Elmer scored on the empty net to seal the 4-2 win for Lethbridge.
Hollett made 25 saves on 28 shots faced, while Klassen stopped 27 of the Tigers' 29 shots.
The Orange and Black are now 1-1-0-0 and will travel to Edmonton on Wednesday to do battle with the 2-0-0-0 Oil Kings.
