EVERETT, Wash. - A multi-point night by Silvertips captain Connor Dewar along with 25 saves by Silvertips goaltender Dustin Wolf helped push the Everett Silvertips past the Portland Winterhawks, 3-1 at in downtown Everett before 3,117 fans on Sunday.
The Silvertips dominated the second period once Portland forward Jaydon Dureau scored the game's opening goal at 7:16 into the second. The Silvertips followed Dureau's opening goal with three unanswered goals, scored by Dewar, Jackson Berezowski and Jake Christiansen, within seven minutes of each other.
UP NEXT: The Silvertips hit the road to take on the Tri-City Americans on Sept. 29 at 7:05 p.m. (1380 AM / 95.3 FM / Tips App / WHL Live). The Tips return home Oct. 5 to battle the Seattle Thunderbirds at 7:35 p.m. Don't forget to wear pink! Oct. 5 is Pink the Rink night at A.O.T.W. A scoreless, yet physical first period produced five total penalties, three committed by the Silvertips side and two by the Winterhawks.
Portland forward Jaydon Dureau scored the game's first goal 7:16 into the second period, the first of his career, off assists from import forward Joachim Blichfeld and forward Jake Gricius.
Dewar tied the game at 12:57 into the second with a wrist shot from the left circle off a tape-to-tape pass from 20-year-old forward Sean Richards.
The Silvertips second period scoring continued with Jackson Berezowski at 14:33, his first of his career, which put Everett up 2-1 in the second off assists from Dewar - punching a shot that deflected towards Berezowski - and defenseman Ian Walker.
Penalties committed by Portland forward Lukus MacKenzie (Tripping at 17:53) and defenseman Brendan De Jong (Delay of Game at 18:01) set up Everett's power play goal by blue liner Jake Christiansen at 18:30 into the second off assists from defenseman Wyatte Wylie and forward Riley Sutter.
Both teams burned their timeouts with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation, where Everett had two empty net opportunities that fell short.
