Swift Current Broncos News Release

The Swift Current Broncos and Saskatoon Blades met on Saturday night in the back half of a home-and-home set between these East Division rivals at the SaskTel Centre. Swift Current's penalty issues proved costly as the Blades scored three power play goals in the first period en route to an 8-0 Bronco loss.

A bad break for Swift Current occurred 3:52 into the tilt as Kirby Dach's shot went off the Bronco defender Noah King's skate and by goaltender Joel Hofer to make it 1-0.

Blades forward Max Gerlach scored his third goal in as many nights, skating out from the corner and beating Hofer high glove to place the Broncos down 2-0.

Two more power play goals from the Blades' Bradly Goethals and Dawson Davidson saw the deficit increase to 4-0.

It was a tough first period for Swift Current as they were outshot 19-6 and dug into a 5-0 hole after 20 minutes.

Broncos forward Andrew Fyten generated a solid scoring chance midway through the second period while his team was shorthanded but his backhand attempt hit the post.

Swift Current's Quinton Waitzner and Saskatoon's Jackson Caller dropped the mitts and each landed five minute majors for fighting. Shortly after, Riley McKay netted the fourth power play goal of the night for Saskatoon to extend the score to 6-0.

The final score ended up being 8-0 for Saskatoon as the Broncos fell to 0-2-0-0 on the season. Shots on goal were 39-17 in favour of Saskatoon. The Blades power play finished 4/6 while the Broncos went 0/2.

Swift Current hits the road for a two-game Alberta trip next weekend beginning with a date against the Edmonton Oil Kings at Rogers Place. Puck drop is at 7:00pm.
