Tigers Shut Out In Brandon
March 8, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
Brandon, MB - A struggle on offensively was the downfall for the Medicine Hat Tigers Wednesday Night as the Brandon Wheat Kings shutout the Tigers 2-0 at Westoba Place.
The first period with both teams coming off road games the night before were neck in neck in opportunities but Tigers starter Beckett Langkow (Vegreville, AB) and Wheat Kings goaltender Nicolas Jones would be solid in keeping things scoreless after 1 with Brenden Lee (Seattle, WA) having the best chance of the period hitting the crossbar. The Tigers would outshoot the Wheat Kings 8-7 in the opening period.
In the middle stanza, it was more of the same for chances and opportunities to score for Medicine Hat and Brandon but it would be the home Wheat Kings taking advantage on a turnover and Zahkar Polshakov would sneak his 7th of the year past Langkow to make it 1-0 Brandon at 5:19. The Tigers would get a couple opportunities to tie but couldn't solve Jones to be down 1-0 heading to the third.
Just like the third period in Winnipeg Tuesday night, the Tigers did everything they could with their chances but couldn't bury the equalizer and a late penalty combined with the goalie pulled would lead to the final goal of the night from Nolan Ritchie to make it 2-0 Brandon with 25 seconds to go in regulation, insuring the Wheat Kings for their first win against the Tigers in the season series.
In the loss the Tigers dropped their record to 26-26-8-1 and still sit 7th in the Eastern Conference standings after losses by Regina to the Edmonton Oil Kings and Swift Current being dropped in Saskatoon. The Tigers look to rebound back at home on Saturday Night in front of an expected sell-out as the Regina Pats will make their way to conclude their season series with Medicine Hat.
You can catch all the action if you couldn't secure a ticket by listening to the game on the home of the Tigers WILD 94.5 starting with the pre-game show with Gino De Paoli & Lance Doll at 6:30, while puck drop is set for 7:05.
