
Pats Fall to Oil Kings 3-2

Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats fell to the Edmonton Oil Kings 3-2 on Wednesday inside the Brandt Centre.
The Pats got goals from Tye Spencer and Connor Bedard who scored his 60th of the season, becoming the fifth fastest Regina Pats player to 60 goals in team history. Meanwhile, goaltender Kelton Pyne made 27 saves, keeping the Pats in the game throughout.
The contest was tied at one late in the first period before the Oil Kings would take a 2-1 lead into the second. After making it 3-1 after two, the Pats got on the board midway through the third before ultimately dropping their second straight contest.
Luke Robson, Marshall Finnie and Gavin Hodnett scored for Edmonton, while Kolby Hay led them to victory with 31 saves as the Oil Kings snapped their 11 game losing-streak.

First Period
EDM 0-1 at 2:28 - Luke Robson (3), assisted by Riley Kovacevic and Reid Larson // The Oil Kings threw the puck toward the Pats net and it redirected off Robson in front of the Pats net and past Pyne to give the Oil Kings a 1-0 lead early in the contest.
REG 1-1 at 13:52 - Tye Spencer (10), assisted by Riley Ginnell and Parker Berge // Berge's shot attempt was blocked and it caromed to Spencer in front of the Oil Kings net and Spencer tucked it five-hole through Hay to get the Pats on the board at 1-1.
EDM 1-2 at 15:36 - Marshall Finnie (7), assisted by Loick Daigle and Rhett Melnyk // The Oil Kings worked the puck deep into the Pats zone where Finnie found himself behind the defence and he was able to tap in the Oil Kings' second goal of the game giving them a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.
Second Period
EDM 1-3 at 12:20 - Gavin Hodnett (12), assisted by Dawson Seitz and Mason Finley (PP) // Shortly after the Pats successfully killed off a 5-on-3, the Oil Kings struck as Seitz found a trailing Hodnett who beat Pyne high to the blocker side to give the Oil Kings a 3-1 lead midway through the second.
Third Period
REG 2-3 at 8:01 - Connor Bedard (60), assisted by Layton Feist and Borya Valis // Feist's shot got through and was kicked out by Hay to Bedard who buried the puck to pull the Pats to within one at 3-2.

Connor Bedard scored his 60th of the season and leads the league with 124 points on the season (60G-64A). He also leads the WHL in goals (60), assists (64), and shots on goal (315). He has 32 goals, 27 assists, and 59 points in 19 games since returning from the World Juniors. He is the first Pats player to score 60 or more goals in a season since Ronald Petrovicy scored 64 in 1997-98.
Bedard scores his 60th goal in his 49th game, becoming the fifth fastest Pats player to 60 goals.
Borya Valis had an assist and now has three points (2G-1A) in his last three games.
Tye Spencer scored once and is on a two-game point streak (1G-1A).
Layton Feist drew an assist on Bedard's 60th of the season which broke a career-high pointless streak (18 games).
Parker Berge has four points (4A) in his last six games.
UP NEXT
The Pats head to Alberta for a mini two-game trek, as they travel to Lethbridge to play the Hurricanes on Friday, March 10 with an 8:00 pm (SK time) face-off. Then on Saturday, March 11th, they visit the Tigers in Medicine Hat with an 8:00 pm (SK time) puck-drop. The Pats' next home action is Wednesday, March 15th when they host the Brandon Wheat Kings with a 7:00 pm start time.
