Medicine Hat, AB - The Medicine Hat Tigers defeated the Moose Jaw Warriors 6-0 on Friday night at Mosaic Place.
Captain James Hamblin scored a pair of goals while goaltender Mads Søgaard shut the door on Moose Jaw by turning aside all 15 of the Warriors' shots for his second shutout of the season. Newly acquired forward Cyle McNabb picked up his first point for the Orange and Black by assisting on the fifth goal of the night.
Hamblin scored the first goal of the game just over two minutes after it started when he collected the puck in the hash marks, turned and fired it past Warriors goaltender Adam Evanoff. Hamblin's first goal of the evening was assisted by Corson Hopwo.
Midway through the period, Elijah Brown passed the puck to a wide open Eric Van Impe who buried it into the net. Van Impe's third goal of the season was also assisted by Caleb Willms.
Just over a minute later, Daniel Baker scored his seventh goal of the season on a play from Tyler Preziuso and Hamblin to make it 3-0.
After a scoreless second stanza, Jonathan Brinkman scored on the power play in the final frame to extend the Tigers' lead. Brinkman's fifth goal of the season was set up by Preziuso and Cole Clayton.
In the last half of the third period, the Tigers added two more goals less than a minute apart. Baxter Anderson netted his second goal of the season on a play from Trevor Longo and McNabb before Hamblin scored his second of the night. Hamblin's 17th goal of the season sealed the Tabbies' 6-0 victory. Clayton and Baker picked up the assists on the play.
Evanoff stopped 45 of the Tigers' 51 shots in the contest and earned the third star of the night.
The Orange and Black are now 17-7-1-0 and they will return home to the Canalta Centre to host the Saskatoon Blades Saturday night for the annual Medicine Hat News Teddy Bear Toss game. Fans are encouraged to bring teddy bears and/or winter wear in plastic bags to throw on the ice when the Tigers' score their first goal of the game. All items thrown onto the ice will be split between the Medicine Hat and District Health Foundation, the Medicine Hat Women's Shelter and the local Salvation Army. Tickets for the game can be purchased in person at the Canalta Centre Box Office or online.
