Calgary Hitmen Donate over $16,300 to Calgary Prostate Cancer Centre

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club today announced $16,317.75 will be donated to the Calgary Prostate Cancer Centre through funds raised at the Bret 'The Hitman' Hart game on Saturday, November 2.
The contest, presented by Kal Tire, honoured Hart by highlighting his wrestling legacy, commitment to the Calgary Prostate Cancer Centre and longstanding relationship with the team.
"The size of this donation speaks to the fans' love and appreciation of our franchise namesake," commented Hitmen Assistant Manager of Business Operations, Rob Kerr. "In our 25th season, it is important for our organization to thank Bret for his ongoing support and contribution to the Hitmen. We were proud to work with the Calgary Prostate Cancer Centre on Bret's behalf to raise much needed financial support and awareness for the work they do in Calgary and area. This was a special event that we hope we can replicate and build upon as we move forward."
With the help of Hitmen and Prairie Wrestling Alliance fans, a portion of proceeds from funds collected through ticket sales, 50-50, FanAttic merchandise sales, an online game-worn and game-issued jersey auction, as well as a pre-game photo opportunity with Bret 'The Hitman' Hart in his WWE wrestling ring.
"Calgary's Prostate Cancer Centre is thrilled by the outpour of community support from Bret Hart, his surgeon Dr. Eric Hyndman, and the Calgary Hitmen," said Pam Heard, Executive Director of the Calgary Prostate Cancer Centre. "As a non-profit organization, we rely on the generosity of events like these to continue providing support to individuals with prostate cancer in Southern Alberta. Thank you to everyone involved!"
In addition to the financial contributions, raising awareness for men's health was also key to this cause with 53 males getting tested for prostate cancer at the game and meet and greet at South Centre Mall on Oct. 19. Prostate cancer is the leading cancer in men with one in seven to develop prostate cancer in their lifetime. The good news is that it is 95% treatable when caught early.
