Charlotte Knights News Release

FORT MILL, S.C. - In front of 15,243 fans, the third largest crowd in Knights Stadium history, the Charlotte Knights offense couldn't equal the firepower provided in the post-game fireworks show. The visiting Norfolk Tides defeated the Knights 8-2.

The Tides started their own fireworks show in the second inning with a solo home run from Rhyne Hughes. The Tides then added one run in both the third and fourth inning before putting up three runs in the 5th inning. The big blow in the 5th was a two-run homer off the bat of Michael Aubrey to put the Tides up 6-0.

The Knights got into the home run game in the bottom of the 5th with a solo home run from outfielder Stefan Gartrell. Charlotte later scored in the 8th inning when Rob Hudson was pushed across home thanks to an error made by Tides first baseman Nolan Reimold.

Norfolk starter Chris George pitched very well through 7.0 innings allowing just one run off four hits. He earned the win to improve to 4-3. The Knights Lucas Harrell took the loss to fall to 6-8.

The Knights and Tides play the series finale tomorrow at 2:15 PM. RHP Daniel Hudson (11-3, 3.57 ERA) will pitch for the Knights, the Tides will start RHP Chris Tillman (7-4, 3.07 ERA).
