
G-Braves Fall to the Bulls, 6-4

The Gwinnett Braves fell to the Durham Bulls 6-4 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Sunday night. The loss snaps a seven-game winning streak by the G-Braves and evens the season series in Durham at 4-4. Gwinnett (41-43) is now 9.5 games behind Durham (50-33) in the International League South.
It Was Over When: Two errors by the G-Braves in the fifth inning led to a four-run inning for the Durham Bulls. Prior to the errors by Wes Timmons and Joe Thurston, the G-Braves and Bulls were locked in a 1-1 tie. The Bulls tacked on another run in the seventh and were able to hold off an eighth inning, three-run comeback attempt by Gwinnett.
Braves Beat: On the Mound: Ryne Reynoso went 4.1 IP, allowing 5 R (3 ER) while posting 3 K's and 5 BB. Scott Proctor relieved Reynoso in his longest outing for the G-Braves this season going 2.2 IP with 1 R/ER, 1 H, 1 K and 2BB. Vladimir Nunez pitched a scoreless eighth with two strikeouts and one hit.
At the plate: Freddie Freeman was 1-for-4 with a home two-run home run in the eighth inning. The home fun extends Freeman's season-best on-base streak to 24 and his current hitting streak to 10. Tonight's home run was Freeman's 4th this road trip, his 10th of the season. Matt Young was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.
The Opposition: On the Mound: Virgil Vasquez earned the win with 6.0 IP, 6 H, 1 R/ER and 10 K. Darin Downs followed Vasquez going 1.1 IP with 3 H, 3 R/ER and 2 K. Winston Abreu got his ninth save of the season pitching 1.2 innings with four strikeouts. At the plate: Dan Johnson went 1-for-3 with two runs score and two RBI. Chris Richard was 2-for-2 with two RBI.
On Deck: Gwinnett plays the tiebreaker game of the three-game series tomorrow at 5:05 p.m. at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Braves LHP Jose Ortegano (2-4, 4.94 ERA) is scheduled to face RHP Jeremy Hellickson (10-2, 2.35 ERA) of the Bulls.
