Norfolk Tides News Release

The Charlotte Knights used four consecutive two-out hits to score three runs in the 4th inning, knocking off the Tides 3-2 on a soggy Friday night at Harbor Park.

Tides starter Jason Scobie (1-7) retired 10 of the first 12 batters he faced, but ran into trouble after recording the first two outs in the 4th inning. Casey Rogowski and Ernie Young hit consecutive singles, and Rogowski came around to score on an RBI double by Ryan Sweeney. Former Old Dominion player Tim Hummel then lofted a soft line drive into right field, scoring Young and Sweeney and putting the Knights up 3-1.

After Hummel's base hit, Scobie re-found his groove, retiring the next ten batters he faced. In all, Scobie allowed three runs on seven hits in a season-high 8.0 innings of work, pitching through a steady rain that began around the 4th inning and lasted throughout the game.

Norfolk had taken a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning, as the Tides strung together back-to-back-to-back two out singles off Charlotte starter Heath Phillips (6-2). Chase Lambin singled and moved to second on a single by Anderson Hernandez, and both runners advanced one batter later via a stolen base. Chris Basak then lined a ground ball that glanced off the glove of third baseman Josh Fields, scoring Lambin and giving Norfolk the lead.

Basak would cut Charlotte's lead to one in the 6th inning, as he led off the frame with a solo home run into the picnic area in left field. Basak is now tied for the team lead with four home runs this season, and the 27-year-old extended his hitting streak to eight straight in the game.

The Tides put the tying run on first base with two outs in the ninth, but Charlotte's Jeff Farnsworth recorded the final out of the game to pick up his 10th save of the season.

The Tides and Knights will square off again Saturday night, with first pitch slated for 7:15 p.m. Left-hander Dave Williams (1-0, 5.14) is set to make his Harbor Park debut against Charlotte southpaw Stephen Randolph (4-0, 2.98).
