Lynx Score Early & Often, Hold On For 8-7 Win
June 2, 2006 - International League (IL1)
Ottawa Lynx News Release
The Lynx batters started Friday's game the same way they ended Thursday's game - very hot. In the top of the first Eddy Garabito slapped a two-out single and scored when Andy Tracy blasted his second homer in as many games, his 10th of the year, to give Ottawa a 2-0 lead. After Toledo cut the lead in half with a single run in the 2nd off of Lynx starter Brian Bowles, the Lynx responded in the third. Todd Donovan and Ed Rogers led off the inning with back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners. An RBI groundout by Eddy Garabito scored Dovovan, and then Andy Tracy's bloop double to shallow left scored Rogers to put the Lynx up 4-1. After the Mud Hens cut the lead to one with two runs in the 4th, Ottawa put a two-spot of their own on the board in the bottom half when Eli Whiteside's two-run blast (his 6th of the year) put the Lynx up 6-3. The teams began to trade runs in this offensive extravaganza later in the game, with an Ed Rogers RBI double giving the Lynx a 7-3 lead in the 6th. After a solo homer by Toledo in the top of the 7th, Luis Terrero doubled to score Andy Tracy (who had doubled for his third hit of the game) to give Ottawa a four-run cushion at 8-4. The Mud Hens would add a run in the top of the 8th, and two more off of Julio Manon in the 9th to make it close, but he got the third out with the tying run on base to collect his 12th save in an 8-7 victory.
Next Game: The Lynx and Mud Hens meet tomorrow night in game three of this series, with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 pm.
