June 2, 2006 - International League (IL1)
Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS -- Right-hander Jason Roach fired seven scoreless innings, while third baseman Yurendell de Caster went 3-for-4 with one RBI as Indianapolis rolled to a 3-0 blanking of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Friday night at Victory Field.

The Indians, who have now won six straight contests for the first time since July 6-14, 2005, improve to 32-21 overall. The Red Barons, who have now lost five consecutive games for the first time since May 5-9, 2005, fall to 29-25.

Indianapolis increases its lead to seven games over Toledo in the International League's West Division, while Scranton/W-B falls to three games behind Rochester in the IL North.

Roach (7.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 SO) earned the win, improving to 2-0 with the Indians. He is now 6-2 between Double-A and Triple-A this season. The 30-year-old, who was promoted to Indianapolis on May 19, has not lost a start since April 26.

2B Gookie Dawkins, de Caster and LF Raul Gonzalez roped three straight singles in the first to give the Tribe the only score it would need.

Indianapolis added insurance runs in the fifth and sixth. CF Rajai Davis came plateward on de Caster's single to left center in the fifth, while RF Adam Boeve belted a solo home run to left center in the sixth.

Indians RHP Scott Strickland (2.0 IP, 1 BB) worked a scoreless eighth and ninth for his third save of the season. The Tribe improves to 26-2 on the season when leading after seven innings and 28-1 when holding an advantage after eight frames.

Scranton/W-B LHP Matt White (6.1 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 SO) was pinned with his seventh straight loss, falling to 2-7.

2B Joe Thurston went 2-for-4 to lead the Red Barons offensively.

The two teams return to Victory Field Saturday night at 7 p.m., for game three of the four-game set. Indianapolis LHP Sean Burnett is scheduled to face Scranton/W-B LHP Brian Mazone.

Ben Holden and Geoff Zahn will have the TV play-by-play on Comcast Local, while Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley are set to call all the action on ESPN-950 AM and IndyIndians.com.
