TONIGHT'S GAME: The second of a four game series and the second of eight meetings with the SkyChiefs, the second of four at The Diamond. Game six of an eight game homestand (Richmond is 2-3). The Braves were 2-6 vs. the SkyChiefs last season, 0-4 at The Diamond. This is the 22nd of 48 games vs. North Division opponents, Richmond is 8-13 vs. the North. The 14th of 24 home games vs. North Division opponents (Richmond is 7-6). Braves are 336-303 vs. the SkyChiefs all-time. The Braves are in a third place tie with Norfolk in the South, 15.5 and a half games behind first place Charlotte. The SkyChiefs are sixth in the North, nine games out of first.

LAST NIGHT'S GAME: The Braves beat the SkyChiefs 4-0 Thursday at The Diamond. Three Braves pitchers shutout the Chiefs on five hits as the Braves took the opener of a four game series. The Braves grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third on an RBI double by Scott Thorman and an RBI single by Carlos Mendez. The Braves added insurance in the eighth on a two run home run by Michael Ryan. Braves pitchers claimed 13 strikeout victims. Brian O'Connor fanned six in five scoreless innings to earn the win. Peter Moylan struck out six in three innings. Manny Acosta closed the game with one strikeout. Four Braves (Torman, Ryan, Cesar Crespo, and Carlos Mendez) had two hits each to lead a 12 hit attack.

MY HERO ZERO: The Braves have thrown seven shutouts this season. They are tied for second in the league in that category. The Braves last two wins have been by shutout. They have allowed 33 runs in their last four losses. They are on a pace to tie the club record for shutouts in a season (19 in 1967). The Braves, however, are last in the IL in ERA. Richmond is fourth in the league in K's.

STREAKING: Bill McCarthy has hits in seven straight games (11-25 .440). Cesar Crespo has a seven game hitting streak (9-23 .391). Scott Thorman has hits in three straight games (4-12 .333). Michael Ryan has hits in three straight games (4-11 .363). RHP Phil Stockman has worked his last 12 innings without allowing a run and permitting just two hits. He has not allowed a run over 10 innings in five appearances on the road. All three runs allowed by Stockman came in one appearance. He did not allow a run in 7.2 Double-A innings before coming to Richmond. RHP Kevin Barry continues to dominate as a starting pitcher. Barry has not allowed a run in his last four starts over 25 innings. The only earned run he has allowed in his last 35 innings came in an extended relief stint May 24.

ON THE LEADER BOARD: Kevin Barry is sixth in the IL in ERA and tied for fourth in strikeouts. Wes Timmons is sixth in batting average (.316). He leads the league in on base percentage (.428). Timmons is currently on the DL and has been out of the lineup since May 16 due to a fractured thumb. Scott Thorman is tied for third in hits with 59. The Braves are second in the IL in stolen base percentage. They have swiped 44 and have been caught 13 times (77%). Charlotte leads the league at 79%.

THROWING THE LEATHER: The Braves are tied for second in the IL in fielding percentage. They are second in total chances. The Braves are on a pace to break the franchise record for fewest errors in a season (97 in 2004). Richmond has played two straight errorless games. The Braves have started at leas three players at every position except second base. Brayan Pena (now with Atlanta) leads IL catchers in fielding percentage (1.000 in 31 games).
