Richmond, VA - The Richmond Braves beat the Syracuse SkyChiefs 8-2 Friday at The Diamond. The Braves blew a close game wide open, sending 11 men up in the sixth inning, paving the way for a second straight win over Syracuse.
The SkyChiefs grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on back to back home runs by Sergio Santos and Kevin Barker. The Braves bounced back with two in the home half on an error and a sac fly by Carlos Mendez. Richmond erupted in the sixth. Jamal Strong singled two runs home. Scott Thorman knocked in a run with a double. Martin Prado, James Jurries, and Dax Norris had RBI singles. Meanwhile, Syracuse did not have a runner past second base after the first inning.
Ricardo Rodriguez pitched seven innings to earn the win. David Purcey took the loss. Prado, Mendez, and Strong all had two hits for the Braves. Barker had two hits for Syracuse.
The Braves and Syracuse battle again Saturday starting at 7 PM. Chuck James will pitch for the Braves against Josh Towers.
