Norfolk Tides News Release

Indianapolis catcher Ryan Doumit clubbed a grand slam in the 7th inning, lifting the Indians to a 7-5 win over the Tides Tuesday night from Harbor Park.

Doumit, who is now hitting .429 with two home runs and eight RBI in eight games for the Indians, lofted a one-out blast to right-center off of Andy Mitchell (1-1) in the decisive frame that gave the Tribe a 7-3 lead.

Norfolk had taken a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on a two-run single by Terry Tiffee. Tiffee also drove in the Tides' first run of the contest on a sacrifice fly in the 4th inning.

The Indians plated seven runs on just five hits, but took advantage of nine walks issued by Tides pitchers in the contest. The Tides had a season-high 12 hits in the game, but also left a season-high 11 men on base.

Eider Torres had three singles and two stolen bases to lead the Tides' offense, while J.R. House and Mike Cervenak each added two hits in the loss. House, who also walked twice in the contest, is now hitting .378, and has hit safely in all 10 games this season.

Tim Kester pitched well in his Harbor Park debut, yielding one run on two hits in 5.0 innings of work. Kester threw just 59 pitches, striking out three and walking one.

Jesse Chavez (1-0) picked up the win in relief for the Indians, while Dan Kolb worked around two walks in the 9th inning to earn his second save of the year.

The Tides and Indians will continue their four-game set with a 7:15 contest Wednesday night from Harbor Park. Garrett Olson (0-0, 3.27) is slated to take the hill for Norfolk against Indianapolis southpaw Sean Burnett (2-0, 2.38).
