It HAPP-ened Again: Happ dominates Knights

April 17, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Ottawa Lynx News Release

Lynx starter J.A. Happ extended his season-starting shutout streak to 10.2 innings and the Lynx scored two runs in the bottom of the 8th to knock off Charlotte 3-2. Jason Jaramillo drove in the eventual winning run with a clutch RBI double.

The win improves the Lynx record to 3-5 and drops the Knights to 5-6.

Player Of The Game: J.A. Happ has not allowed a run as a member of the Ottawa Lynx. Two starts into his tenure in the Nation's Capital, Happ has gone 10.2 scoreless innings. He leads the Lynx with 11 strikeouts after notching 5 more tonight against Charlotte.

Game Recap: The Lynx got off to a hot start for the home crowd, scoring in the bottom of the 1st inning. Centrefielder Chris Roberson walked to lead off and promptly stole second base. After a Chris Coste walk, Roberson scored on Gary Burnham's RBI single. Both starting pitchers then went about putting zeroes on the scoreboard. Happ and Charlotte starter Heath Phillips would keep both teams off the scoresheet until Charlotte scored to tie the game in the top of the 7th off reliever Fabio Castro. The Lynx took the lead back in the bottom of the 8th and they did it with small-ball. Joe Thurston led off with a bunt single. Lou Collier then moved Thurston over with a sacrifice bunt and reached on an error by Knights catcher Wiki Gonzalez. Chris Coste then bunted as well, sacrificing Thurston and Collier into scoring position. Gary Burnham was intentionally walked to load the bases and Brennan King broke the tie when he was hit by a pitch. Jason Jaramillo then put the game out of reach, driving home Coste to round out the Lynx scoring. Charlotte came back with one in the bottom of the 9th but the Lynx faithful went home happy, celebrating a 3-2 Lynx win in their 15th Home Opener.

Next Game: The Lynx host the Knights in the second game of their four-game series Wednesday night at Lynx Stadium. Game time is 6:05pm.

Probable Pitchers: Wednesday vs. Charlotte, 6:05 pm, Ottawa LHP Brian Mazone (0-1, 1.64) vs. RHP Charlie Haeger (1-1, 5.25)
