
Braves Win Third Straight

Richmond, VA - The Richmond Braves beat the Louisville Bats 3-1 Tuesday night at The Diamond. Four Braves pitchers scattered five hits and struck out 10 to lead the Braves to their third straight win.
The Braves bats came alive in the fourth, driving home the deciding runs on a pair of RBI singles. Second baseman Willie Harris led off the inning with a sharp single to right field. Gregor Blanco bunted Harris to second where he was driven in by Yunel Escobar on another single to right. T.J. Bohn moved Escobar to third on a single over the head of Louisville first baseman Joey Votto. Barbaro Canizares then took a 1-1 pitch to right field to chase Escobar home. The Bats scored in the seventh when Mark Bellhorn doubled and came home on a ground out. Harris doubled in the seventh and scored on a double play ball to make it 3-1.
Braves starter Anthony Lerew pitched four scoreless innings and recorded five strikeouts. Winning pitcher Phil Stockman, who came off of the disabled list shortly before Monday night's game, retired all six hitters he faced, three with strikeouts. Manny Acosta worked out of a bases loaded jam with a double play ball to earn his second save. Louisville pitcher Bobby Livingston pitched six solid innings but took his first loss of the season.
Harris, Escobar, and Blanco had two hits each for the Braves. Bellhorn had two hits for the Bats.
The Braves and Bats meet on Wednesday night for the third of four games at The Diamond this week. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. On the mound for Richmond is RHP Trey Hodges (0-0, 0.00) who will face off against Louisville LHP Phil Dumatrait (2-0, 0.71).
The Braves will wear Virginia Tech hats for the last two games of the homestand. Following Thursday's game Braves players will autograph the hats which will be auctioned off at www.rbraves.com. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to funds to aid victims of Monday's shootings at Virginia Tech.
