Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons open up a four-game series with the Toledo Mud Hens from Fifth Third Field (6:30 p.m.). The Herd has won five straight, including a four-game sweep of the Clippers in Columbus. The stretch started last Thursday with RHP Jeff Harris, who will get the start tonight against Toledo. Harris allowed just one run in five innings of work against Ottawa. Toledo will counter with RHP Ron Chiavacci, who threw five innings of one-run ball on April 9
GREAT START: The Bisons are 7-1 for only the second time in the team's Modern Era (since 1985). The 2001 Herd was 7-1, but it lost the ninth game of the season. The Bisons recent five-game winning streak has given them a two-game lead in the International League North Division. The Herd is also third in the league in hitting (.277) and second in pitching (2.51ERA).
BIG WIN: Yesterday's 17-1 victory over Columbus set a new Bisons Modern Era record for margin of victory. The Herd had won by 15 runs on three occasions, with a 15-0 victory over Durham on June 1, 2006 being the most recent. The last time the Bisons scored 17 runs was a 17-7 win over Syracuse on August 25, 2005.
SWEEP!: The Bisons completed a four-game sweep of the Clippers, outscoring Columbus 25-4. It was the team's first four-game sweep since June 20-23, 2005 against Norfolk. The last time the Herd took four straight from an opponent on the road was August 16-19, 2004 in Pawtucket.
1-2 PUNCH: Batting 8th and 9th in the lineup, Jason Cooper and Ryan Mulhern combined to go 7-9 with five extra-base hits and 11RBI last night. Cooper had a three-run double and a two-run double before the second inning was over. Mulhern had four separate run-producing hits, including RBI-doubles in the first and second innings, and a two-run home run in the sixth.
HIT STREAK: Outfielder Shin-Soo Choo comes into tonight's game with a six-game hit streak. Since April 11, Choo has hit .533 (8-15) with five RBI, four walks and two runs scored. Choo has also reached base in all eight games this season, posting an International League-best .571 on-base percentage.
HELD IN THE YARD: Bisons' pitchers have yet to allow a home run so far this season (8 games, 68.0 innings). Last season, Herd pitchers allowed just 79 home runs, the fewest in the International League.
