Tides Edge Buffalo in 11
May 9, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Norfolk Tides News Release
Chris Parmelee lined a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the 11th inning to lift the Tides to a 1-0 win over the Buffalo Bisons in front of 10,536 fans Saturday night at Harbor Park.
With one out in the 11th frame, Paul Janish opened the decisive inning with an infield single off of Bobby Korecky (1-1), then moved to second on a walk to Henry Urrutia. After Nolan Reimold was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Parmelee lined the first pitch he saw into right field to plate Janish and give Norfolk its second straight extra-inning walk-off win.
Four Norfolk hurlers combined on the seven-hit shutout, with Chaz Roe (3-1) earning the win with two innings of relief. The shutout was the fifth of the season for the Tides, who now own the best ERA in the International League with a 2.58 mark.
Tides starter Zach Davies turned in an impressive outing but was saddled with his fourth no-decision in six starts this year. Davies allowed just three hits over five shutout innings as he walked two and struck out five. The 22-year-old right-hander, who has not allowed a run over 11.2 innings against Buffalo this season, lowered his ERA to 2.30 on the year.
Former Tide Randy Wolf turned in an exceptional start for the Bisons, as he allowed just four hits over seven shutout frames. Wolf walked one and struck out three as he lowered his season ERA to an even 1.00 in six starts this year.
Christian Walker had three singles to lead Norfolk, which won for the third consecutive game. It was also the 16th one-run game for the Tides (16-13) this season.
The two clubs wrap up their season set Sunday afternoon at Harbor Park, with first pitch set for 1:05. Eddie Gamboa (1-1, 3.96) gets the start for Norfolk against left-hander Andrew Albers (1-3, 3.09).
Sunday is also Mother's Day, and moms can enjoy a mini-manicure or mini-masage at the ballpark while kids can decorate a special t-shirt, courtesy of Gildan. The first 4,000 fans will also receive a collectable photo of Eddie Gamboa, courtesy of Johnny Rockets and 97.3 The Eagle.
